Transportation Services for Seniors

Relying on public transportation can be burdensome and ultimately rob seniors of their freedom.

Remember when you first received your driver’s license? You felt a sense of freedom. You were on no one’s watch. If your driving privileges are put on hold, it can be quite devastating, especially for senior citizens.

Older adults are more likely to experience a fatal crash “per mile driven,” according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In Pennsylvania, there are driver safety laws to help prevent accidents. At age 65, Pennsylvania drivers are required to pass an exam every 2 years. If you fail, you are no longer eligible to drive.

So, how do you run errands, pick up groceries, go to routine doctor’s appointments, go shopping, attend parties or just visit a friend? How do you regain your freedom? Our Senior
Transportation Service is designed to resolve this very problem for older adults living in the Gettysburg PA region.

People are often led to believe there are only four available transportation alternatives:

  • Bus
  • Taxi
  • Uber/Lyft
  • Walk

Another option is to ask busy family members, but that’s not a long-term solution. Even if a family member is willing and able to take the day off to drive you to your appointments, it’s not a
reliable option. What if they get sick or another, more pressing, obligation comes up? You’re stuck.

With a Senior Transportation or Errand Service, seniors never have to feel like they’ve lost their independence. Services like ours are a convenient option for seniors to help them meet their
obligations and save time.

Seniors with access to reliable transportation services are more likely to feel independent than
those who rely on others and traditional forms of transportation, such as taxi cabs and public transportation.

Wasted time is one of the biggest complaints among many older people who rely on public transportation. Running a simple errand to the Post Office or picking up a couple of items from
the grocery store, like a snack and a loaf of bread, can turn into an all day process. In fact, when using public transportation it’s not uncommon that you spend more time in transit than
completing the task.

Here are a few things to consider if you, or a senior loved one, is currently using public transportation or a private service like Uber or Lyft, but you’re open to an alternative like our
senior transportation services:

  • If you miss the bus, you must wait a long time for the next one. And if you miss the last
    bus, you’re in trouble.
  • You’re not always guaranteed a seat if you board a crowded bus.
  • You often have to stand while you wait for a bus or a train.
  • Providing friendly and exceptional service is not always a top priority among those who
work in the public or private transportation industry.
  • The daily costs for a private service like Uber or Lyft can become steep quickly.
  • Cleanliness and hygiene is not a priority in the public transportation sector.

If you’re currently using public transportation or an expensive private service like Uber or Lyft, perhaps it’s time you consider a better alternative that’s specifically designed for seniors?
